Please Note
It is with great regret that we have been told of a few incidents this year where judges have been on the receiving end of verbal abuse whilst judging in the ring and we feel we must remind people whether members of the BSPS or not that these classes are run under BSPS rules and that everyone should make sure they read and understand them. The Rules may be viewed here BSPS Rule & Show Handbook
Rule 67. No member of the BSPS shall conduct himself in a manner or be guilty of behavior which is derogatory to the character or prejudicial to the interest of the BSPS and in particular (but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) no Member shall behave in an offensive or abusive or unpleasant manner to any person at a show.
Rule 71. Failure to observe any of the rules may result in disqualification of the pony concerned and the institution of disciplinary proceedings by the BSPS against the person breaking the rules in accordance with the BSPS Rules. In the event of disqualification of a pony after a cup, rosette or prize money has been awarded, such cup, rosette or prize money must be returned forthwith to the Show or the BSPS as appropriate.
Competitors are respectfully reminded that show secretaries, judges and stewards are trained volunteers who give up their time freely and willingly to run shows for your enjoyment. Please give the respect and courtesy that these appointed people deserve. The BSPS will not tolerate physical or verbal abuse which may result in exhibitors being excluded from shows.
PRETTY POLLY SHOWING CLASSES
Pretty Polly classes are aimed at, truly, amateur families and their ponies. The Rule book clearly defines eligibility; however, we have created a few scenarios to help with the understanding in various situations.
1. A professional producer or trainer is defined as someone who earns an income for producing, training, trimming, turnout, transporting and grooming, horses or ponies for other people, for the show ring or at a show.
2. Ponies must be owned, prepared and ridden by amateurs.
3. All Pretty Polly rules relate to activity from 1st January current year.
4. These Rules apply to the animals and the riders and owners.The following examples are not exhaustive, but will cover some of the main issues that are often raised within our membership;
EXAMPLE 1.
Mr Black the producer, sells you a pony that has come from his yard, within the current season;
This pony is not eligible for PP classes in the current year.EXAMPLE 2.
You send one pony to Mrs White, professional producer, for some schooling, preparation and help. This pony AND its rider, become excluded from PP classes from this date. Any other ponies and children you have are unaffected provided they do not ride the pony concerned.
EXAMPLE 3.
Your child accepts a chance to ride a pony that is professionally produced – This child becomes ineligible for PP classes for the remaining calendar year.
EXAMPLE 4.
At a show, friends, Molly and Dolly decide to help each other when classes begin to clash – they plait for each other, groom and strip ponies in the ring for each other and Molly’s daughter takes the ride on Polly’s pony. All are amateurs, and have no connection to producers, no ponies in production, and the riders have not ridden a pony that has been produced (all since 1st January current season) This activity does NOT exclude them from PP competitions.
EXAMPLE 5.
Little Millie is quite nervous and is given a quick lesson at a show, just prior to her class. The lesson is given by a producer – Millie is effectively now NOT eligible for PP classes for the remainder of the current year.
EXAMPLE 6.
A producer cannot travel any home produced pony to shows
There is a great likely-hood that you may have some specific questions that relate to Pretty Polly eligibility as the season progresses, please feel free to contact any Scottish Branch Committee Member for advice or clarification.,in the meantime, we wish you good luck for 2008, and trust that the “spirit intended” by these classes is embraced by our members.******************************************************************************************

PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS download nomination form here
For those of you who have not taken part in the Premier League Teams before,
by way of short explanation:-
At the Summer Championships there is a Competition known as the Premier League.
This competition is run on the final day of the Summer Championship show.
It is run as individual classes which cover every discipline.
Anyone who has qualified can enter these classes, either in red or blue division (even more confusing)
Each individual area of the BSPS, and also the Scottish Branch and Ireland,
are asked to put forward teams of up to 6 members, or 8 in the case of Heritage,
from those entered in the Premier League classes.
There are 4 different teams put forward:
1 comprising show ponies
.
1 comprising show hunter ponies
.
1 comprising working hunter ponies
.
1 comprising heritage ponies
.
(last year we also managed a small dressage team!)
Any member of the Scottish Branch who enters the Premier League classes is eligible
for selection in one of the Scottish Premier League Teams.
If selected, the individual’s placing in the particular premier league class is given a score
and the scores of all the team members added together to find which team is the winner.
The big thrill of all of this, and the culmination of the week’s competition is the
Parade of the Teams on the Saturday night.
All the area teams enter the arena, in order, on foot in formal show dress.
It is a real party atmosphere and of course there are loads of flags to wave!!!
Even if you don’t make the team we make it a policy that all members are invited to the parade
to do their bit of cheering and flag waving!!
Rosettes for all and a huge party atmosphere make for a great end to an exhausting week!!
Any questions, please contact Linda Tinson contact details........
.
If you would like to take part, please
.
ENTER the PREMIER LEAGUE classes
.
and
.
LET US KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!
.
We can’t put you in a team if we don’t know you have entered!!

YOUNG JUDGES 2007
BSPS Scotland sent Victoria Harvie to represent Scotland in the Young Judges competition
at the Summer Championships Show in 2007. This competition is run either as a Team Event
or an Individual Event. Victoria entered the Individual Event and had to compete against other
competitors from all the BSPS Areas fighting off fierce competition from both male and
female members. We are pleased to announce that Victoria WON this competition,
a great achievement for herself and for Scotland too. In 2008 Victoria was accepted onto the
BSPS Judges Panel to judge Show Hunter Ponies after passing her judging
assesments with flying colours.

An Account of the Day

I agreed to ride Harry (Rosemore Unique) at the demonstration at Gleneagles. I knew it would be good to get him out before the 09 season properly takes off.

A shock to the system with the early rise we managed to hit the road. Ponies were worked in when we arrived in the lovely indoor school arena and then back to the lorry to get ready.
Under the professional guidance of Mr David Blair and Mr Tom Best we entered the arena.
The demonstration was just like an ordinary class with the go-round and then individual shows. However, there was commentary throughout highlighting the do's and dont's of showing. After it the audience were able to ask questions which were answered by the judge.
The jockeys were given rosettes and our B.S.P.S. ones were lovely. Our 3 ponies all went well so we were pleased. They were tucked up and put back in the lorry for a well earned rest while we were treated to a free lunch. We were advised to go early for lunch as there was an increase of spectators. We were fed like some of the very unlucky spectators at the end.

2008 FINALE SHOW - A HUGE SUCCESS
Rowallan Activity Centre
Supreme of Show
Julie Bankier with Bronheulog Charmer
I am delighted to report that the feedback on our first Finale Show has been overwhelmingly positive.
For the dedicated team who made this event happen– the endless hours of planning and creating this Show has been so worthwhile, the effort was a pleasure.
![]()
![]()
![]()
The atmosphere was that of fun and enjoyment, purely down to you, the members, and we thank you for your participation and efforts.
It goes without saying, but really needs to be said;
This Show could not have taken place without the generous support of every Class, Championship and Major sponsor, and certainly not without the “hands on” volunteering of stewards, officials and our judges and supporters.
On behalf of the members of Scottish Branch, thanks again.
We are very pleased to be able to announce that this event will again take place in September 09.
Planning is already underway for 09 and early as it is!!.. we are able to announce that the Hibberd Family and Saddle up (Ardrossan) have generously offered their continued support.

If you have any suggestions or issues you would wish us to consider in our planning, please feel free to contact any Committee member.
Look Forward to doing it all again next year
Kind Regards,
Morean Hamilton,
On Behalf of The Finale Show Committee.

Scottish Schools Combined Training Event 2008
Our younger BSPS members did exceptionally well at the Scottish Schools Combined Training Event which was held at Gleneagles on Sunday 20th April.
There was a huge turnout of entries , and in the 12 years and under , both the overall individual sections were won by members - Ashleigh Warnock
on her new pony which she has only had for four weeks which is a tremendous achievement , and Harry Waterston on Penmarric Miss Moppet .
Jessica Tinson finished second in her section on Lord of The Manor and Madeleine Tinson also did well on her new pony Bunbury Czar .
James Whiteford jumped a lovely clear round on his pony Pik n Mix and was on the third placed Loretto Team , and Nicky Melville also did a super
round on Defalogue Rhiannon as a member of the second placed St Georges Team .
The BSPS members were a real credit to the Soceity in their turnout , style and perhaps , most importantly ,
their behaviour throughout the long event - a huge ' well done ' to everyone involved .
