A Wee Bit Of Fun !!!

Here are a few stories from our junior members

MY PONIES SHOWING SEASON

This year I’ve had a fantastic season with all my ponies ; Bracon ToyTown(12.2 SP), Rhos Virtuoso(13.2 SP), and my 133SHP Trelawn Kingfisher!

Our season started  with Bracon ToyTown(Rupert) qualifying early on for HOYS at Strathallen in the 12.2 SP! And I was especially pleased as this is my last year with Rupert as my legs won’t  stop growing!!

We then made a 10 hour journey to Hickstead for The Longines Royal International Horse Show where Rhos Virtuoso(Harry), Won & went Champion in the PBA. It was an amazing feeling with my blue sash on around my shoulders ... but then to be called forward for Champion was a dream come true!

After recovering from Hickstead, mum and I travelled down to Bakewell(unfortunately without gran as the weather was terrible!!) And then just to put the icing on the cake Harry went and qualified for HOYS in the 13.2 SP where he was then Champion.

Our next major outing was the BSPS Summer Championships and it was our last chance to qualify Kingfisher! And we did just that, Kingfisher ended up 3rd in a really strong class of 23 qualifying for HOYS! I couldn’t believe it; I’m going to HOYS with 3 ponies!...mum was on the verge of crying and I think I was ready to cry with her! And that was just the start of the best BPSP I think I will ever have!

Harry then went on to WIN his 3rd HOYS qualifier out of a class of 26 ; so I made sure Harry got extra carrots that nite.

Next Day I had the Blue Riband with all 3 of my ponies and they all made it through to the Top 10 on the Saturday. And then on Saturday, The Final of the Blue Riband; Harry ended up 2nd( taking him through to the Evening performance), Rupert 6th, & Kingfisher 8th !

Then, it was the day of all my Open classes, Harry once again done a fantastic show that even the judge told me I had gave her Goosebumps on the back of her neck watching me! Harry ended up taking 1st and then reserve champion! Rupert was 3rd in his class and I was very pleased with him as again it was a very strong class. Kingfisher was then 7th in his open, 2nd in his Freestyle, and 4th in his champion of champions!

 My Pony Bronheulog Charmer

Hello

Mum asked me to do a story about my season with Charlie and especially the BSPS champs. Charlie is my 12hh show hunter pony and this is my second season with him. His show name is Bronheulog Charmer and he is orange. In our first season together we started on the leading rein as I was 7 and just starting first ridden, but Charlie was always such a good boy that within weeks we were not only doing first pony classes but also open SHP classes where we started to gallop-now that was fun. I begged mum to enter me in the RIHS qualifier at Ayr County and she said it would be a bit of a waste of money but Charlie was a star and won the class and the leading rein and qualified in 2 sections for Hickstead. He kept on looking after me all year and we got better at the gallops and won all his Scottish Points sections and the white division at the summer champs and we got 3rd in the Champ of champs(again mum thought it would be too much for me).  This season we looked forward all winter to lots of gallops and I now was riding with double reins so what a thrill when at our first show-Kilmaurs- we won our class and the SHP Champ. We did this quite a few more times and got lots of confidence and again qualified RIHS at Ayr even though I did the wrong show and Mr Blair told me to concentrate more, but luckily he liked my pony lots!!!!  I then persuaded Mum to enter me in HOYS classes and we did one at Strathallan but it was his third class that day and we were too slow and ended 5th.I was all set for the Yorkshire but due too bad weather we stayed at home-really disappointed. Dad then said we should go to the Northern Horse Show, mum said no, but we worked on her all week and she eventually said OK-YIPPEE. I got up at 3am and when we got there it was very very muddy and mum and dad said maybe a mistake to have come down. It was a very big class but we did a fab go round and we qualified-Mum in floods of tears-what a woose. We then had a couple of supremes which felt amazing although we were soaked by the end of the day. Then off to the Champs! I love going to the Champs and meeting some girls I've met from England. My big ambition each year is to win a championship and do an evening performance-so far I have always been lucky enough.  Charlie did not let me down and seemed to love a holiday a way from home and the really big rings as his gallops got better and better as the week went on. Our main class was the mini hunter class and we did a really big show and a good conformation and I won-when they read my number out I looked at mum and dad and they looked disappointed until they realised I was first and not 10th-they thought it was reverse order, then mum started jumping up and down-a bit more like it.Last years HOYS winner was second and this years RIHS winner was third, so not bad for Charlie. We then did the Championship and again Charlie was a dream and we won the Mini-Hunter pony champ-my week was made and I got a lovely Sash and cup. He then qualified for the Blue Riband Final and was 5th Red Division(2nd= on points) and then was runner up in the Champion of Champions and in the Championship for this did a brill gallop and left the ground completely!!! My wee funny moment at the Champs was when I was doing my conformation with Charlie in one of the classes and I was chatting to my friend Danielle who was next to me with her pony and my mobile phone fell out my pocket and we all panicked then laughed hysterically and the judge didn't know why we were laughing! My week ended in with an evening performance on Saturday night in the Vauxhall as Charlie won the SHP section of the Accumulator and we paraded with the other winners (Zoe and fuzzy) and it felt soooooo exciting. We are now practicing for HOYS and can't wait until next year. A big thank you to everybody who helps me (especially Kimmie Nicoll who looks after me in Championships and keeps me on the right leg-thanks Kimmie) and especially to Charlie who is the most magic pony ever. lots of love

My Young Judges Experience at BSPS Summer Championships

It was the first time I had ever been to the BSPS Summer Championships and I really enjoyed the short time I spent there for the young judges competition.

Kenny and Elaine very kindly drove Rae, Kimberley and myself down to the championships, leaving early on the Monday morning, the weather was not looking good for the week ahead, with heavy rain falling. We arrived at Arena UK on the Monday afternoon and luckily the rain had stopped. Thanks to the McCulloch's Gold Stabling pass we managed to skip the long queues and get straight into the Gold parking area where we got an excellent spot right next to the two stables which were for Rae's ponies.

Tuesday morning was spent exercising the ponies and then off to Caroline's caravan where both the young judges teams got much appreciated last minute tips and help from Caroline Nelson before Rae, Kimberley and I went back to Rae's lorry to go and get dressed and ready for the competition starting at 2pm. We got briefed on the rules of the competition by Nigel Hollings and then it was finally time to go out and judge the four ponies on a part of the many outdoor surfaces. I was quite nervous before we went to see the ponies but once we were out there and concentrating on the ponies my nerves went away. All three of us made many notes on each pony and wrote marks down for the four ponies and our final placings. Once we had seen the ponies on the go around, doing an individual show and being stripped we went back into the large marquee where we sat at a table and re wrote our notes and discussed the ponies. After we had done this they took in our mark sheets and we discovered we were second last to go, out of 18 teams! We had an extremely long nerve- racking wait until our interview but we were able to help ourselves to a selection of food from the buffet and drink Pimms! Eventually it was our turn and we sat down at a small table with two interviewers who asked us about the marks we gave to the ponies and our placings. Then we went to another table where we got tested on our rule book, overall we thought we had done pretty well and we were pleased with the answers we gave and the comments we made.

It was then time to go to the indoor arena at night where many spectators were watching and find out the results of the competition. We were not placed in the top six but we had great fun doing the competition (despite the long wait!) and I enjoyed all the training which we had done previous to the competition as well as choosing our outfit! I would recommend doing the young judges to anyone keen to have a go at it and I hope to also do it again next year.
